Iterations of Self" is rooted in transformation, particularly the internal shifts experienced during periods of change, whether through life transitions or challenges. The series began to take shape after an unexpected layoff in early 2024. While processing the shock and shame of that moment, Hood channeled her energy into the project, initially incorporating window blinds printed with personal photographs as a symbolic element.
The most time consuming aspect of the project involved cutting out self-portraits and gluing them to the paper rabbit mask. Through this exercise, the artist fully realized the concept, emphasizing the ongoing evolution in how we view our circumstances and ourselves. The work serves as a powerful reminder of the freedom to think, feel, and present oneself in a way that feels authentic.
